Farm-Fresh Wholesome Foods For Pets

Picture

When visiting the farm people often comment on how healthy our pets look.  Their coats are shiny, eyes bright, they are not sick.  Heck, our dog Salem is almost 14 years old and still keeps up with the younger dogs.  These dogs are up all night keeping coyotes at bay and still have energy to greet customers and play all day!

For us, we look at our animal health care much like our own.   We look at nutrition first.  We feed our pets a diet natural to dogs and cats....  raw meats, fats, eggs, yogurt, and milk.

Historically.....

One of the earliest and most respected physicians of all time, Hippocrates,  wrote "...let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food."  This profound statement not only applies to humans.. but it is true for all animals as well.  For dogs and cats their natural diet is raw foods.  Raw organ meats, raw bones, raw fat.  Raw milk contains all of the properties of all of these foods, its convenient, and pets love it!  Raw milk is as good for pets as it is for humans.

When wild animals feed off a carcass.. they generally eat the intestines and stomach first... these areas of the animal provide the beneficial enzymes and bacteria that not only help the predator digest the meat and bones but also keeps their immunity strong.   We can't exactly do this with our pets... but raw milk provides many of the same benefits.  It carries the enzymes for digestion is and is full of beneficial pro-biotics.

Even in primitive human civilizations the same practice is followed.  While humans may not want to eat the intestines of a slain animal... they found a more creative way to get all that goodness.  The earliest forms of cheese were made by placing fresh raw milk into the stomachs of slain animals.  Cheese making was born!  This transformed into making rennet from a calf's stomach to curd the cheese and cultures were introduced rather than just naturally occuring depending on the flora in the stomach/intestines of the animal.   Sounds gross... I know.  But, remember.. our digestive systems thrive on this bacteria.  We are not sterile beings!  Our entire immune system is dependent upon intestinal and stomach health and live bacteria.

Speaking of historically....  do pets need vegetables?  What about grains?  Almost all modern pet foods are based mainly upon grains and grain-by-products and meat-by-products.   Why is it we are told to not switch a dog's food.. to keep with the same brand or style?  This is easy.  Because if a dog or cat is eating only a dead food.. they don't have the flora to handle changes well.  Their tummy's are easily upset and worse..their life expectancy is drastically reduced.  So many dogs and cats require special foods... to treat food allergies or skin conditions.  This is because they are toxic.  Their insides are not alive with beneficial bacteria.   (Unfortunately the same can also be said for many people.) Adding raw milk and cultured raw milk to your pet's diet can help to improve digestion and health.

Grass fed meats, bones, and milk provide a wide range of vitamins and minerals readily assimilated by pets.   The grass provides omega's and CLA factors just has healthy for animals as they are for humans.
